Comments:
I learned more about autism from watching and listening to Marty than I could
from a number of lectures.

I cannot express how much I learned from Marty.
Her insight and courage is amazing. She lends so much understanding
into the world of autism.
.........Student, Intro to Special Ed.
Marty's insights, charm, and humor should
be experienced for those touched by autism. I know I am a better
person and clinician knowing Marty.
..........Tom Parton M.S. CCC-SLP
I love listening to Marty. Her presentation
demonstrates the ability to overcome adversity, demand more
of ourselves than we give, and a view of life that few of us
understand (that of an autistic).
...........Director of Special Education
Marty has given me a glance into my son's
world. Helping me to see his strengths, potential, and hope
for the future.

Presentations Professional Development
Personal inside look at living with autism, along with various supports and
approaches that can be used in the classroom.
Parents
Marty gives parents a rare glimpse of what it feels like growing up with autism,
the frustrations of not being understood, the inability to make and keep
friends, and how finding acceptance has changed her life
School Age Peers
Marty speaks at assemblies to educate peers about their friends with disabilities,
teaching them that we are all different in many ways and how we may all also
have unique talents. She can hold the attention of 100’s of Jr. High
students at once which demonstrates her ability to captivate an audience
of any age.
Communication
Marty talks to teachers and service providers about her many modes of communication,
the various stages that she’s went through in her life; including being
a selective mute for many years. She explains how she can lose her ability
to verbalize at any given moment and the need to have access to alternative
modes of communication.
Sensory
Given the many unseen sensory challenges faced by many children with autism,
Marty’s presentations on sensory can have a profound effect in providing
supports in an educational environment. She explains how things make her
feel and why, while also sharing the many supports and strategies she uses
to stay focused and productive
Behavior
Marty’s message about behaviors is that: It’s always communicating
something. Expressed behaviors come from the many challenges of having autism;
whether it’s from being overly stimulated, the inability to communicate
or be understood, and even how it’s used as a means of escape. She will
give insight into “meltdowns” and some of the approaches used that
can help create calm in a crisis.
Social
Social understanding and acceptance is one of the largest challenges faced
by individuals with autism. Marty gives a humorous and sad look into these
challenges; including how difficult it is to make and keep friends, how misunderstanding
other people’s intents can lead to being taking advantage of, and how
difficult it is to read between the lines in social situations which can
also lead to trouble.
